Takeaways from October's Assembly in NYC?

I did not attend the 2011 AKML in New York and missed the presentations and other events scheduled for the days following AKML. I recall that early in the planning phase, there was talk of conducting a session with a tentative title (rough paraphrase) "The Future of General Semantics: Where Do We Go from Here?" Was such a session held, and, if so, might the takeaways be summarized somewhere on the website? Thank you.

    Hi Phil!

That part of the program eventually was titled "Whither General Semantics" and had perhaps about 20-25 participants. The IGS President was in attendance and led the roundtable, taking notes throughout. I also took notes for myself. Comments were limited to about two minutes apiece and included a brief introduction from each person about how s/he became acquainted to GS.

The President structured the session such that that first part had people contributing their ideas on "how to make GS more relevant." Some ideas included making a movie/getting a movie made about Alfred Korzybski, promoting student scholarships, addressing GS critics, improving the selection of GS articles on the website, improving social networking, limiting board member terms, etc.

The next part was focused on "specific ideas for growing GS and moving IGS forward." Some ideas included giving presentation stipends, developing teaching standards, commeting on presumed problems with GS, promoting GS to law enforcement officers, developing a business plan, getting GS into academia more, translating GS to set theory terms, developing the board, changing or developing the name(s) of the field, allowing more interested parties to access our social media accounts (Twitter, YouTube, etc.), publishing and scanning our library, etc. One notable thread of discussion was about what are our gauges for success--as an organization in particular. Membership? Something else?

That covers a lot of the general information from the session.
